RTO to Begin Online Payments from Sept 1

With effect from 1st September, individuals now need not carry hard cash to the office to regional transport for paying taxes or fees for numerous services. Launched by the transport department, this facilitates the individuals with online transactions at different regional offices of the state.

This decision was taken post the cases and complaints were received about mismanagement of cash at the RTO Bhubaneshwar office. Infact police cases were also registered. To remove the problem, they have now introduced the cashless online services in all regional transport offices. Chandra Sekhar, the transport commissioner also said RTOs shall have their help desk to assist the non tech savvy individuals make their payments online.

As per the plan, the “Online Payments in RTO” shall introduce POS – point of sale terminal at nearly 36 RTO’s for helping the customers in their cashless transactions and enabling them to swipe their credit or debit cards in POS machines. Few days back, the transport department also held meeting with leading private banks for exploring the facility of “introduction of cashless service”. This proposed move shall benefit the regional transport officers and the consumers. It is aimed to reduce the threat of carrying cash to offices of RTO. Apart from this the RTO now need not transport daily cash collectibles from offices to banks.

As per officials 36 RTO collect the revenue to approximate amount of INR 1.53 crore every day. All this is in cash form. In related development, the Online Payments in RTO has included seventeen new services beneath the umbrella of Odisha Rights to Public Services Act. This promises delivery of services on time by the customers to the RTOs.

Initially they provided 13 myriad of services in set time frame. They have now added 17 services and any officer that is found crossing the deadline shall have to pay fine of INR 500 every day until the services are delivered. This news is welcoming for individuals who make their payments in cash at RTO Bhubaneshwar, for this RTO is first to start the cashless payments.
